The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has sought a response from the Ministry of Jal Shakti and the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) on the permissibility of constructing temporary bridges on rivers for mining.
The tribunal was considering a case concerning the construction of a temporary bridge across the Yamuna at Sonipat in Haryana to facilitate mining. The applicant, a resident of Sonipat, had said that the construction of a bridge over the river has resulted in diversion of its course and “submergence of agricultural land of farmers”.
