In a first-of-its-kind move, a team from the office of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India used artificial intelligence to find out whether the roads recarpeted by the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation actually required it.
According to details, of the eight stretches that the civic body had recarpeted at the cost of crores, the CAG team found that at least five roads were in absolutely good condition and did not require any recarpeting.
A senior official of the UT administration confirmed, “Yes, artificial intelligence was used. An equipment was installed on the rear of a vehicle that was subsequently driven through the roads that were carpeted.
