Kolkata: The much-awaited traffic trials at EM Bypass’ Metropolitan crossing and Tagore Park started on Saturday, ahead of handing over the sites for the New Garia-Airport Metro work. The sites are needed for bridging two viaduct gaps – 125m and 76m – which is key to the corridor’s extension beyond the Ruby crossing to Metropolitan.
Kolkata Police’s traffic department on Saturday started four-day traffic trials for both sites after cordoning off the areas which will be required for building the Metro piers and the viaduct (on which tracks are laid) atop them. “We need to check the traffic system on the weekend and the weekdays. Thus, the trials are likely to continue till Tuesday,” a traffic official said.
