Kolkata: Traffic cops are being forced not to use automated signalling system on key arterial roads like DH Road and EM Bypass as the damaged road surfaces make vehicles slow down at the city’s two key crossings. This has prompted the planning department of traffic police at the headquarters to change traffic signal timings by five-10 seconds, depending on the road conditions.
The stretch between Mominpore and Kidderpore — where twin works by Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) and Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) have damaged the road severely — has five traffic signals. The patchwork at certain spots yielded no results after rain.
