NEW DELHI: The once-iconic Centaur Hotel at Delhi Airport that was built for Asiad 1982 along with terminal 2 (T2) will shut down by October-end. The land is required for the upcoming expansion of IGI Airport (IGIA). “As per directions of aviation ministry, the land parcel occupied by Centaur Hotel and Chefair Flight Catering is to be handed over to Airports Authority of India (AAI) by November 30, 2019… it had been decided to case operation of Centaur hotel by October 31, 2019. Thus Centaur Hotel, Delhi, will be able to accommodate SOD (staff on duty) in the hotel till October 31. Hence it is requested that alternate arrangements may kindly be made for their hotel accommodation accordingly,” a note by Hotel Corporation of India (Centaur parent company, a subsidiary of Air India) VP J Rajakumar to AI on Monday said.
Centaur currently has two hotels – Delhi and Srinagar – as others like those in Mumbai have been sold off earlier. The aviation ministry has been trying to work out a way to minimise the pain for employees of Centaur Delhi by arranging for a gold handshake.
