Tiruchy: M Padmanaban, working as a Grade II Artisan in the High-Pressure Boiler Plant of BHEL Tiruchirappalli has been conferred with the prestigious, Jeewan Raksha Padak for 2018, consisting of a medal, a cash prize of Rs 1,00,000 and a citation, by Government of India in recognition of his act of saving life at his workplace at grave risk to his own.
A BHEL release on Saturday, that Mr Padmanaban, received the award for his act of bravery and presence of mind in extinguishing a fire which broke out at his workplace due to leak of highly inflammable acetylene gas from a cylinder used for welding. He quickly identified and deployed the correct fire extinguisher to put out the fire, averting a major disaster as the incident happened close to the LPG line and in proximity to the coal-yard and other inflammable goods, it added.
