Boeing to invest $100 mln in infrastructure, pilot training in India

Boeing has announced a $100 million investment in infrastructure and programs to train pilots in India, Reuters citing a White House statement reported.

This comes on the heels of Air India signing firm orders of over 200 jets earlier this week from Boeing, which include 20 787 Dreamliners, 10 777Xs, and 190 737 MAX narrowbody aircraft.

A flurry of deals were signed by U.S. and Indian companies on the sidelines of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s meeting with U.S. President Joe Biden in Washington on Thursday.

Air India on Tuesday signed agreements with Airbus and Boeing for acquiring 470 planes for an estimated USD 70 billion at list prices.

Earlier on Monday, in one of the biggest aircraft orders by an airline, IndiGo announced placing a firm order for 500 narrow-body planes with Airbus.

India’s newest airline, Akasa Air too had ordered four additional 737-8 jets from Boeing during the Paris Air Show.

A Bloomberg report earlier said that both Boeign and Airbus have mammoth tasks to build those planes as they are struggling with various issues ranging from engine problems to semiconductor shortages to glitches with suppliers to disruptions caused by the war in Ukraine.

The planemakers also have a shortage of workers.

“Boeing has faced its own hurdles as it works to restore its output to pre-Covid levels. They range from an exodus of seasoned engineers and mechanics early in the pandemic, to shortages as suppliers grapple with turnover and hiring issues,” Bloomberg reported earlier.
