Reacting to frequent petrol price hikes, in 2018, MK Stalin, the then opposition leader in the Tamil Nadu Assembly, had demanded to bring fuel under the Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime “to ease the burden of common man”. However, in a complete U-turn after becoming the state’s Chief Minister, he wants the GST regime to be deferred for managing the state’s revenue.
