On July 6, 2015 the Supreme Court issued notices to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Enforcement Directorate (ED) on a petition that demanded a probe into payments worth crores made by Aditya Birla group company Hindalco Industries, to Environment ministry officials for getting various clearances to group companies.
Prashant Bhushan, Supreme Court lawyer, argued that the investigating agencies had done nothing to probe the cash trail, and the entries recorded in the diary recovered during raids of Aditya Birla group companies on October 15, 2013. Mr Bhushan demanded a probe on three counts – hawala transactions, bribery and money-laundering. The two agencies will have to submit its report to the court in four weeks. The case will be listed again after six weeks.
