BENGALURU: Clearing the confusion over error-ridden electricity bills for the month of May, Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (Bescom) on Monday admitted the hefty bills are the result of prolonged delay in meter-reading exercises across its jurisdiction along with the new tariff.
Awaiting clarity from the government on the ambitious Gruha Jyothi scheme, Bescom personnel delayed the monthly meter-reading exercise by 10-12 days, resulting in exorbitant electricity bills. However, engineers ruled out any erroneous calculations by meter readers.
Bescom conducts meter reading in the first week of every month and generates bills within the 6th or 7th. However, in contrast to its usual practice, Bescom could not generate bills for many consumers even after June 19, leading to chaos and confusion.
