Four friends, one idea and a lockdown. That’s the founding story of electric motorcycle startup Raptee.
Dinesh Arjun, Keerthivasan Ravi, Karthik A and Phunith V, who knew each other from engineering college and later work, all had the same idea. It helped that they had worked in big auto, both ICE (internal combustion engine) and EV (electric vehicle). Raptee was incorporated in October 2019, just before the pandemic turned the world on its head. It has since received two grants from national vehicle testing agency Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) – `20 lakh for vehicle control units last year and a more recent `3.27 crore grant for a high voltage motor controller drivetrain.
As CEO, Dinesh Arjun overseas operations, branding and marketing. As CTO, Keerthivasan Ravi, with his strong focus on frugal engineering and production, handles manufacturing.
