BENGALURU: Skyrocketing petrol and diesel prices are forcing many vehicle owners in the city to switch to compressed natural gas (CNG). The number of vehicles running on the cleaner fuel in the state has gone up by 16% in the last 50 days. The rise is sharper in Bengaluru: At least 20%.
On Sunday, petrol was sold at Rs 111.34 per litre and diesel at Rs 102.23.
GAIL Gas officials said their scheme launched on September 10 to promote CNG-run vehicles has been receiving good response in the city. “A total of 1,690 new CNG vehicles across the state, including 1,300 in Bengaluru, were added since the launch of the promotional scheme. They include autorickshaws, cars, LCVs and HCVs,” said a GAIL Gas official.
