BENGALURU: BMRCL is likely to introduce trip passes at discounted rates between two fixed stations. It is yet to finalise the amount.
Under the system, passengers will be able to buy passes for a particular number of trips. TOI had carried an article on December 6 on the issue: ‘BMRCL’s monthly pass proposal remains on paper’.
Namma Metro’s daily ridership is 3.3 lakh compared to 5-6 lakh before Covid-19. At present, passengers need to maintain a minimum balance of Rs 50 on smart cards and the discount for smart card users is only 5%.
Trip passes are expected to help those visiting the city for a short period. In Kochi, such a pass can be used to travel between two fixed stations (chosen at the time of issuance). There are two types in that city: 30-trip pass with 30 days validity and 25% discount and 60-trip pass with 60 days validity and 33% discount.
