Generators contribute to both air and noise pollution. Most of the domestic and industrial gensets run on diesel. Some of the local generators run on kerosene as well, thereby giving rise to air pollution. Moreover, it is eminent that gensets cause high levels of noise pollution as well.
With the view of ensuring a healthy and feasible environment nation-wide, the Central Pollution Control Board has come up with specific guidelines that genset users have to follow in letter and spirit. The guidelines are in the areas of installation, maintenance and phasing out of old generators after their active life is over.
