Barh-I

Technopromexport (TPE), a Russian company, awarded with EPC contract for 1,980 MW (660×3) by NTPC way back in March 2005, is yet to start any kind of activity for its rollout. The project was to be installed at Barh, near Patna in Bihar and all the three units were to be commissioned by January 2010. Even, in May 2010, the government agreed to pay $191 million more for the project, yet TPE did not move at all. It wanted $248 mn more from NTPC for starting the project.

Now, NTPC board has terminated the contract. Since some payment had already been made, NTPC wants to continue its relationship with TPE’s subcontractor TKZ, the maker of steam boiler. The relevant part of the decision is reproduced herein for our readers.
