The bad condition of roads and Lok Sabha polls have hit the tourist arrivals by over 30 per cent during the peak summer season as compared to last year.
Although hoteliers and travel agents hope that the tourist footfall will increase after the poll result this week, they are worried that the bad roads will hit the tourism industry.
“The plight of the Kalka-Shimla, Chandigarh-Manali and Shimla-Manali highways is pathetic. Tourists face traffic jams and potholes on many stretches due to the sluggish work on the fourlaning of highways. It takes tourists more than eight hours to reach Manali from Shimla,” said Sunil Kumar, a hotelier.
