India’s aviation industry is quickly returning to pre-Covid levels and airlines have reached 90% of the pre-pandemic peak traffic last week, aviation minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said at a Times Now conference on Thursday.
“The domestic airlines today are carrying only 10% lower than the peak passenger number of 420,000 per day pre-Covid. In terms of passenger load factors too, which is a real indicator of demand, airlines have hit 80-85% (means airlines are flying with 85% seats full),” Scindia said.
On the question of airlines being able to sustain these levels of traffic once the festive demand tapers, he said a lot of demand is coming from small cities that have seen a resurgence with new airports under the Ude Desh ke Aam Nagrik (UDAN) scheme.
