The rising temperature in Chandigarh has led to a surge in the demand for power which has touched 230 MW, up by 20 MW compared to last week. On Monday, the consumption stood at 248 MW, officials said.
An official with the Union territory’s engineering wing stated, “This usually happens mid-May. Perhaps for the first time, the power demand has already touched 230 MW from what was 210 MW a week ago. If this situation continues, the demand will reach 300 MW by the end of this month.”
In winter, the peak demand in the city is around 170 MW while in summer, especially in June, it may go up to 400 MW. Officials added that Chandigarh’s power demand goes up to 280 MW around 10 am in mid-May,
