As EV demand gathers pace, Delhi govt seeks to strengthen EV charging infra

The Delhi government has intensified its efforts toward strengthening EV chargers in public, semi-public and private spaces as demand for electric vehicles gathers pace.

Over 200 chargers have been installed at 126 locations across Delhi since the launch of the single-window service for installing private charging points.

EV chargers have been installed at almost 113 locations in south and west Delhi which are produced by the BSES Rajdhani. 11 have been installed in north Delhi which is under Tata Power and 2 chargers are in East Delhi under Yamuna BSES.

The government will be launching a single-window facility in which customers can obtain a private EV charging point installed at their house, group housing societies, apartments, RWA offices, and commercial shops using an internet platform called Switch Delhi. Under this policy already 12 vendors have been enrolled under BSES.

For promoting the cause, the government is offering Rs 6,000 one-time subsidy for the first 30,000 charging points.

“We are creating awareness among the public on the importance of having an EV charging network and the installation benefits being extended by the government. We have done one round of outreach programmes with shopping malls, office complexes and housing societies, and will soon have another round,” DDC vice-chairman Jasmine Shah told TOI.

Shah further said that almost 500 chargers will be installed at around 100 different locations by the end of July. Currently, there are 825 EV chargers installed at 597 locations.

Since the introduction of the EV policy in August 2020, the EV sales in Delhi have reached 50,000.
