New Delhi: The Union Ministry of Aviation has informed that the in-principle sanction given to the Aranmula airport project will be re-examined.
The ministry took the decision in the wake of the objections raised by the ministries of Defence and Environment and Forests, Minister of State for Aviation, Mahesh Sharma, said.
Sharma said that the Cochin International Airport has not been included in airport hub as of now. The Kerala government’s request for the same will be considered later, Sharma said.
Sharma had earlier informed Parliament that the Centre has given in principle sanction for Aranmula airport project along with 14 other airport projects.
Earlier, three ministries had given nod to the project worth over Rs 2,000 crore. Among these, the sanction given by the MoEF was cancelled by the National Green Tribunal and the apex court had upheld the decision.
The Ministry of Defence gave sanction to the project in 2011 during UPA Government’s regime. A few days ago, the ministry issued an order cancelling the sanction.
