NEW DELHI: India’s fuel and power demand continued in the slow lane for the second month in a row in April in spite of an uptick in farm and economic activities, provisional government data showed.
Petrol demand rose 2.5% in April from a year ago, the slowest since December 2022 when pace of growth had sputtered to 8% after rebounding in double digits for months. The poor growth comes amid robust automobile sales and indicates demand further losing steam from 5.1% year-on-year growth in March.
Diesel consumption, a key indicator of economic activities, fared better with a 6.7% increase over April 2022, trebling the pace of growth from 2.1% in March, the first time in many months it had faltered to a single digit.
