In tune with India’s commitment to net-zero emission by 2070, the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) has asked the Andhra Pradesh energy department to implement energy efficiency measures in the building sector.
This sector contributes to about 33 per cent of the total electricity consumption, becoming the second largest consumer. The commercial buildings in Andhra Pradesh draw around 3,000 million units (MU) per annum. According to the state officials, about 30 percent of the total consumption (900 MU of electricity) can be saved by implementing energy efficiency measures.
The BEE will organise an international conference on “augmenting nature by green affordable new-habitat” (ANGAN) with the theme of “making the zero-carbon transition in buildings” in New Delhi from September 14 to 16. The BEE invited all the state governments to discuss expediting the efforts towards net zero emissions and low carbon buildings and develop a discussion paper.
BEE director general Abhay Bhakre said that Andhra Pradesh has accorded high priority to energy efficiency in the building sector.
AP special chief secretary for energy, K Vijayanand, said the state government is planning to adopt the Eco-Niwas Samhitha (ENS) code in residential buildings.
