NEW DELHI: The city was warm on Friday even as some areas in northwest Delhi recorded moderate rainfall due to the formation of hyperlocal thunder clouds, a phenomenon that weather scientists expect to continue in isolated areas of the city.
On Friday, the city saw a slight rise in the maximum temperature with some areas recording over 40 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, Mungeshpur in northwest Delhi recorded 21.5mm of rainfall.
Owing to the heat, the peak power demand in the city soared to 7,398 MW on Friday, the highest in this year so far. The previous highest power demand in this year was recorded 7,226 MW on June 14.
