The Bureau of Energy Efficiency has set a target of 6.68 mtoe energy savings to Andhra Pradesh. The BEE suggested the Andhra Pradesh State Energy Conservation Mission (APSECM) to chalk out a sector-wise action plan to achieve the target.
It also directed the state to develop a special strategy and action plan to raise public awareness about the significance of energy efficiency measures. The Facilitation Centre of BEE has identified 30 energy efficiency financing projects, the highest among all the states, with estimated project cost of around ₹412 crore in Andhra Pradesh.
During a virtual meeting, BEE director general Abhay Bakre said that all countries can benefit from increased energy efficiency because it will aid their efforts to achieve energy independence and open up new avenues for economic growth and job creation. The DG stressed on increasing wider public awareness about the impact of energy efficiency and ill effects of climate change. He asked all the state designed agencies, including the APSECM, to devise plans to tap the huge energy savings investment potential of around Rs 10 lakh crore by 2031. “The potential can be identified in key sectors like industrial, commercial, domestic, transport, municipal and agricultural sectors in the country,” said Bakre.
Based on the report of energy savings achieved till date and consumption pattern in various sectors, the BEE has fixed a saving targets for all the states, including the 6.68 mtoe target for Andhra Pradesh.
The officials of the AP State Energy Conservation Mission explained to the DG BEE that the state government has focused on both implementation and awareness programmes pertaining to energy conservation and efficiency.
“The state has reduced around 1.2 million tonnes of oil equivalent energy through implementation of the perform, achieve and trade (PAT) scheme in industries so far,” they said.
“The BEE’s goal of saving 150 million tonnes of oil equivalent by 2030 and India’s goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2070 can be met more quickly by sensitising consumers on energy conservation. The adoption of energy efficiency measures in key sectors such as agriculture, industry, municipal, and buildings will help achieve these targeted milestones,” added Bakre.
