Andhra Pradesh: Govt lifts power holiday for industries

With power demand coming down in the last week, the state government has decided to lift the power holiday declared to industries.

Energy minister Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy has said the government has advised distribution companies to restore at least 70 per cent of supplies to industries on all seven days. Speaking to the media at the secretariat on Tuesday, Peddireddy said the government has also decided to ensure 100 percent supplies to food processing units in the state. “The energy consumption has come down to 186 million units per days from the peak of 235 million units reported last fortnight. After ensuring 100 per cent uninterrupted supplies to the domestic and agriculture sectors, we have decided to provide 70 per cent supply to industries,” Peddireddy said.

He said there would be no power holiday for the industries and food processing units, cold storages and aqua culture units would be given uninterrupted supply. The minister added that the government is expecting to save at least 3,300 crore on subsidy to the agriculture sector after fixing meters.

Earlier, the government had announced a power holiday for a day every week and supplied just around 50 per cent energy to industries. The reduced supplies had rattled industries.
