BENGALURU/TUMAKURU: A weak monsoon coupled with soaring demand for electricity has put the state government and its energy department in a fix, especially with the rollout of the Gruha Jyothi free power scheme.
While home minister G Parameshwara on Tuesday revealed in Tumakuru that the energy department has no choice but to resort to load-shedding in parts of the state, officials insisted there is no reason to panic as Karnataka’s demand for power is being met by alternative sources — at least for now.
Sources say Karnataka’s consumption has shot up by a staggering 72% compared to the same time last year.
