NEW DELHI: The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) has flagged how railways failed in the Centre’s push for digital and limited cash transactions as it made Rs 2,395 crore cash transactions between 2017-18 and 2021-22.
The CAG’s audit report on “Railways Finances” presented in Parliament on Tuesday also mentioned how in Northern Railways, a shortage of Rs 6.8 lakh cash from a cashier was noticed during surprise cash verification in March 2017 and it has not been reflected under departmental balances. It highlighted how records related to nearly Rs 12 crore of cash were not available with eight zonal railways and production units.
