Amara Raja launches electric vehicle charging stations in Andhra Pradesh’s Tirupati

Amara Raja, a manufacturer in the Indian battery storage industry space, has launched electric vehicle (EV) charging stations and battery swapping stations in collaboration with Tirupati Municipal Corporation (TMC).

Amara Raja Batteries Limited, part of Amara Raja group of companies, has set up EV battery charging and swapping stations in the temple town of Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh along with a fleet of electric auto-rickshaws (e-autos) as part of the Smart Cities program.

The Tirupati Smart City Corporation Limited (TSCCL) had floated a Request for Proposal (RfP) for 6 MW of grid-connected solar projects.

The company has recently set up a pilot project to assemble battery packs with lithium-ion technology. The manufacturing facility has a production capacity of 500 MWh. This will serve the two and three-wheeler vehicle segment and e-rickshaws. The EV battery charging or swapping stations and lithium-ion packs are designed and developed at the research and development (R&D) facilities of Amara Raja.

The company is also associated with Rashtriya Seva Samithi (RASS) an NGO that is supporting women drivers for this fleet of e-autos, creating self-employment and encouraging gender balance in the workforce.

Amara Raja is a company that is into end-to-end solutions in the automobile storage industry, offering charging stations, lithium-ion battery packs and fleet operation solutions in various modalities.

Tirupati Smart City has been taking giant leaps towards building sustainable infrastructure. Recently, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) also inaugurated a 1 MW ground-mounted solar project at Tirupati’s Renigunta International airport. Fourth Partner Energy commissioned the project.

Moreover, earlier this year, the Andhra Pradesh Economic Development Board (APEDB) and Urja Global signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for setting up manufacturing units of lithium-ion batteries and electric vehicles for the development of electric mobility ecosystem.
