Kolkata: The SpiceJet staffer at the check-in counter who had refused a wheelchair to a woman with spine disorder has been dismissed by the carrier. The step followed an inquiry after a TOI reported on Wednesday.
The ground staffer at counter 15 had, on Tuesday morning, refused a wheelchair to Mamta Agarwala, who was travelling to Coimbatore for a spine operation. It was only when the airport director’s office stepped in that a senior airline official made the wheelchair available.
Following the TOI report on the incident, SpiceJet launched an investigation, speaking to the senior official who had resolved the issue, as well as other ground staffers working in adjacent counters that morning. The probe concluded that the staffer concerned was guilty of breach of the airline’s code of conduct.
