CHENNAI: A Colombo-Chennai SriLankan Airlines flight suffered a tyre burst soon after landing at Chennai airport on Sunday. Passengers on the flight disembarked safely.
Airport sources said the A321 aircraft with 140 passengers touched down around 8.30am and suffered a tyre-burst when the aircraft was taxiing from the main runway. The plane’s tyre was damaged because it ran over a taxiway light while exiting the runway into the taxiway, said an official.
The flight came in to land from the Pallavaram-end of the main runway and turned into a taxiway in front of the air traffic control tower when its tyre was damaged. However, the plane continued to taxi and reached the parking bay in front of the international terminal. The aircraft did not have to be towed to its bay.
