Aircraft manufacturer Airbus says it has received approval from India’s aviation regulator for the C295 aircraft programme. The Indian government, in September, signed a Rs 21,00 crore deal with Airbus Defence and Space to procure 56 C295 transport aircraft.
The Directorate General of Aeronautical Quality Assurance (DGAQA) approved the European aviation major’s plan to replace the Indian Air Force’s ageing Avro-748 planes.
Airbus becomes the first foreign original equipment maker to get such approval; under the agreement, the European manufacturer will deliver 16 aircraft ready to fly within four years, while the remaining 40 will be manufactured and assembled by Tata Advanced Systems (TASL) in India as part of an industrial partnership between the two companies.
