NEW DELHI: Come 2025-26 and you may be flying an Airbus for commuting up to 80km distance in an electric vertical take off and landing urban air mobility (UAM) vehicle called ‘CityAirbus’. The European aerospace major on Tuesday announced it is developing this fully electric vehicle with fixed wings, a V-shaped tail, and eight electrically powered propellers to carry up to four passengers in zero emissions flights.
CityAirbus prototype’s first flight is planned for 2023 and certification is expected around 2025, says Airbus Helicopters CEO Bruno Even. CityAirbus is being developed to fly with a 80km range and to reach a cruise speed of 120kmph, “making it perfectly suited for operations in major cities for a variety of missions”.
