Air Quality in Delhi NCR

During winter the Air Quality in Delhi turns ‘severe’ due to moisture in the air, reduced level of winds, burning of crop residue, coal based power plants, construction activities, plying of vehicles, etc in the national capital region (NCR). This is the time when slew of emergency temporary measures are taken by authorities, mostly at the direction of the Supreme Court. During this period, orders are issued to stop certain coal based thermal power plants, construction activities are stopped, movements of trucks are restricted. A ‘Commission for Air Quality Management in NCR’ formed for the purpose has not been able to handle the issue properly so far.
