On May 23, 2014, the Ontario (Canada) Superior Court of Justice sentenced Nazir Karigar of Cryptometrics for allegedly offering bribe to Praful Patel, the then aviation minister, V Thulasidas, the then CMD of Air India, and other Indian public servants, to three years in prison. Before that on August 15, 2013, the same court had convicted Mr Karigar in the matter. The judgments record alleged meetings between company officials and Mr Patel and other officers of Air India and how the money was paid to Mr Patel. Robert Bell, Vice President of the company provided the entire evidence including the emails and bank statements of transactions.
On June 11, 2014, Prashant Bhushan, renowned Supreme Court lawyer activist, made a complaint to the CBI demanding registration of case and investigation in the matter. Though the CBI has confirmed of having registered the case yet no investigation is taking place in the matter.
