MUMBAI: Air India has notified travel agents and Haj pilgrims that its flights operating on the Jeddah-Hyderabad-Mumbai and Jeddah-Kochi routes will not allow holy water (zamzam) from Mecca on them till September 15. The July 4 circular, issued by Air India’s Jeddah office, has gone viral and left pilgrims, their relatives and tour operators worried.
“Due to change of aircraft and limitation of seats, zamzam cans will not be allowed on our flights nos. AI966 (Jeddah/Hyderabad/Mumbai) and AI964 (Jeddah/Kochi),” states the Air India letter.
After some pilgrims and their relatives approached Congress MLA Amin Patel, he has written to the ministries of civil aviation and minority affairs, requesting them to direct Air India to arrange zamzam for the pilgrims returning by these flights till September 15.
