Kolkata: Work for bridging the 125m viaduct gap of the New Garia-Airport Metro at EM Bypass’s Metropolitan crossing started on Sunday after the traffic department handed over the site. Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd (RVNL), implementing agency of the 32km Orange line, has been requesting the site for the last six years to erect four pillars to fill the gap in the deck on which tracks are laid. The city’s longest Metro corridor project, launched in 2011, has missed multiple deadlines because of land logjams.
TOI reported on August 19 that the much-awaited traffic trials — conducted till August 22 — had been initiated by the traffic department at Metropolitan crossing and Tagore Park.
