Adani Green Energy (UP) Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Adani Green Energy Limited, has commissioned a 50 MW solar PV power project in the state of Uttar Pradesh. The off-taker for the power generated from this grid-connected solar PV project will be Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL).
The UPPCL has entered into a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Adani Green Energy (UP) Limited for the procurement of power from this grid-connected solar PV project. The approved PPA tariff, at present, is ₹5.07 (~$0.072)/kWh.
With the commissioning of this 50 MW grid-connected solar PV project, Adani Green Energy’s solar portfolio has reached nearly 2 GW. According to Mercom’s India Solar Project Tracker, Adani Green Energy now has 1,988 MW of solar PV projects under operation and 1,065 MW in the development pipeline under various stages of development.
Previously, Adani Green Energy had filed an appeal before the Appellate Tribunal for Electricity (APTEL) challenging the reduction in PPA tariff from ₹8.44 (~$0.12)/kWh to ₹5.07 (~$0.072)/kWh by Uttar Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (UPERC).
In February 2018, Mercom reported that meeting between UPERC and the project developers ended on January 31, 2018, without an agreement on the negotiated tariff for six grid-connected solar PV projects planned for Uttar Pradesh. These six projects were initially part of 16 projects that the Uttar Pradesh government had reached a separate agreement on back in 2015.
Together, those 16 projects were expected to supply 215 GW of power to the state, but the development was thwarted by disagreements between the government and developers over the quoted tariffs of the winning bids, according to Mercom’s India Solar Project Tracker.
Then, in November 2017, the UPERC and the 16 developers agreed to adopt a renegotiated tariff of ₹7.02 (~$0.11)/kWh for the projects that had already been completed. Nine projects totaling 135 MW had been commissioned by February 2018.
