CHENNAI: Airports Authority of India (AAI) is making another attempt to open the unused international arrival terminal at the city airport for departures.
The plan was to change the utilities inside the building and open it in the first week of April. The terminal has been lying unused since 2013 when new terminals were commissioned at Chennai airport. An official said Haj flights were operated from the terminal in the last few days and the operations went well. “We will use the feedback from the usage and will add the changes to make it ready for handling departures soon,” he added.
Work had already begun and facilities needed for handling departures like check-in counters, counters for the immigration and customs and others were installed. However, the agenies concerned need to allot staff to work at the terminal when operations begin.
