New Delhi: As many as 62 toll plazas on national highways and expressways have been closed by the government after recovery of capital cost and considering public interest, Lok Sabha was informed today.
“Government has closed 62 toll plazas after recovery of capital coast and in public interest,” Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways Pon Radhakrishnan said during question hour.
The toll plazas, which were already closed, were located in Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Odisha, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Telangana and Uttar Pradesh.
The Minister said the total revenue collected from toll plazas was Rs 9283.23 crore in 2012-13, Rs 11,436.59 crore in 2013-14 and Rs 14,214.48 crore in 2014-15.
A webportal has been launched to make available to road users information concerning toll plazas on national highways and expressways operating under the Road Transport and Highways Ministry and National Highway Authority of India.
The information includes the applicable fee rates for various categories of vehicles at any toll plaza, facilities available at toll plazas and emergency contact numbers, he said.
