NEW DELHI: Services of an Air India flight were affected on Thursday after a technical snag left passengers stranded at the airport for at least eight hours. Almost 400 passengers were made to de-board the flight at Indira Gandhi International Airport and many created a ruckus, claiming that they were not informed as to when they would get to fly out.
Aircraft AI 865 was scheduled to depart at 10am from Delhi but it finally left at 5.59pm and landed in Mumbai at 7.58pm, which was seven hours and 43 minutes after its scheduled arrival time.
“All passengers had boarded the flight, a 747 jumbo, when we discovered an engine snag. The plane had to be brought back to the tower bank and our engineers tried to fix the engine. However, as it wasn’t fixed by 2pm, we asked the passengers to de-board,” said an Air India spokesperson. “Another 787 was then arranged that departed around 6pm. All passengers were provided food and refreshment three hours after the delay, which is the standard procedure”.
