Large parts of Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, and Thane faced a power outage for around three hours Wednesday.
The power cut occurred following the tripping of the 400 kV Talegaon-Kharghar line, which is one of the most critical lines supplying power to the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, authorities said.
In a statement, the Maharashtra State Transmission Company said the line tripped due to a fire beneath the line at 1.55 pm. At 2.44 pm, a trial was taken, but the line tripped again at 2.52 pm leading to fears of wider damage as the energy demand in Mumbai was at record high levels amid the afternoon heat.
