BENGALURU: The wait for the 155-km four-lane road, work on which began four years ago, is likely to stretch longer. The project to decongest Bengaluru’s traffic is mired in land acquisition delay and cost escalation, going by the admissions of the implementing agency and an urban expert closely monitoring the progress.
The project, which envisages broader roads for the city’s outlying areas, including Varthur-Kempegowda International Airport and undertaken by Karnataka Road Development Corporation Ltd (KRDCL), was supposed to have been completed during 2019-2021. Though the project was divided into 10 packages for speedy execution, it has missed multiple deadlines. On some stretches, work hasn’t begun.
