Under the “bijli chori pakdo abhiyaan” across the state on July 15 and 16, the Power Department detected 3,005 cases of power theft and imposed a penalty of Rs 9.82 crore on the people concerned.
Power Minister Ranjit Singh said 252 teams were deployed in all 10 circles of the Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (UHBVN) during the campaign. During the drive, 13,929 connections were checked by the teams and 1,719 cases of power theft detected. The theft of about Rs 4.88 crore was caught by the UHBVN teams, he added.
