A question mark has been put over the quality of the work being executed by the private company engaged in the four-laning of the Parwanoo-Solan section of National Highway 5, with a sizeable portion of the service lane opposite the Police Lines on the Kather bypass having sunk several feet.
About 200-m stretch of the road facing the valley has sunk, making it unfit for commuters. Huge cracks are also visible on the affected portion of the highway. The cracks point to the fact that water had seeped in from below as proper water seepage interventions have not been put in place. The cracks are further widening, which will threaten road lying in its precincts.
