MUMBAI: Pilots of GoAir aircraft that veered off the Bengaluru runway during a low visibility landing in November last year, had lost visual reference of the runway when the aircraft was barely 50 feet from ground, according to preliminary inquiry. Under such circumstances, the pilots should have aborted the landing and carried out a go-around instead.
On November 11, a GoAir aircraft, operating the Nagpur-Bengaluru flight G8-11, with 180 passengers on board, veered off the runway strip and onto the grass upon touch down at Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru, due to low visiblity. After landing on the strip of grass, the flight took off and later landed in Hyderabad safely.
