CHENNAI: Residents of several areas in Velachery struggled without power for more than 15 hours on Tuesday after supply was cut at 2am following a fire in two feeder lines at the substation due to overload. The entire substation was engulfed in smoke, affecting equipment.
Officials said restoration work began immediately after the fire was put out, but residents of several areas complained that they were in the dark even after 12 hours. The work was finally done after officials and workers from other zones of Tangedco were roped in for the mammoth task. A senior official with the state power utility said that it took them several hours to pinpoint the problem when fire suddenly broke out on the feeder line and the entire area was wreathed in smoke.
