Budget carrier SpiceJet has become a member of the International Air Transport Association (IATA), it announced on Tuesday. With this, it has become the first Indian low-cost airline to join the association. “The IATA membership is also significant on account of SpiceJet’s plans to rapidly expand its international footprint,” the airline said in a statement.
The membership, which is enjoyed by over 290 airlines worldwide will help SpiceJet to grow its connections with other airlines through interlining and code shares, enabling to seamlessly expand the network options for its passengers in future, it added.
