3 Mumbai airport customs officials booked by CBI in duty racket

MUMBAI: In a third such case of collecting bribes through an online payment app and getting it credited into the accounts of associates, the CBI has booked three customs officials posted at the airport on charges of corruption.

CBI on Saturday conducted searches at the residence of a customs superintendent, a customs inspector and a havaldar posted at the city airport on Saturday for collecting bribes from two separate passengers who arrived from abroad carrying dutiable items.

The three officials, with the help of their accomplices, had collected Rs 12,000 bribes from two passengers through an online payment app before allowing the passenger to go without paying customs duty. The money was credited into the accounts of loaders working at the airport.
