Whiling away at railway station’s pick and drop zone to pinch in Delhi
NEW DELHI: People ‘wasting’ time at pick-up and drop-off zones on railway station premises will have to shell out money as Railways is planning to introduce ‘access-control parking system’ across the city, in a move aimed at cutting congestion.
The system is already in place at the Ajmeri Gate entry of New Delhi Railway Station. It is likely to be started at Nizamuddin station in two to three months, a senior railways official said. Thereafter, the model will be replicated in Old Delhi and Anand Vihar.
Under the system, tokens are given to drivers at a kiosk set up at the entrance of the pick-and-drop lane and collected at the exit gate, where boom barriers are installed.
