UPPTCL to boost transmission by next summer

Energy Minister Shrikant Sharma said that UP Power Transmission Corporation Limited (UPPTCL) was preparing to boost transmission capacity as demand was likely to reach 26,500-MW level by next summer.

He directed the UPPTCL officials to add 50 new power transmission sub-stations to ensure uninterrupted power supply across the state. Presently there are 550 grid or transmission sub-stations in UP.

“This year the peak demand was 23,419 megawatt (MW) which was met successfully. By next summer, the maximum demand is expected to reach 26,500 MW and we are improving our network,” Sharma said.

Keeping the increased demand in mind, the state’s capability to import power from outside will be increased to 14,000 MW, while power transmission capacity (PTC) will be enhanced to 28,000 MW. At present, the TTC is 12,300 MW and PTC is at 24,500 MW.
